Renewable Energy related issues in the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022
December 17, 2022 at 10:30 AM – 5:30 PM
Idam Infrastructure Advisory Pvt. Ltd. (Idam Infra) and the Society for Legal & Policy Research (SOLPO Research) are organising a roundtable discussion on the potential implications of the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022 for India’s transition to renewable energy (RE).
India has made a commitment to develop 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity and to reduce its estimated emissions by 1 billion tonnes by the year 2030. In the upcoming roundtable, we will discuss whether the proposed amendments in the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022 will help the nation achieve its stated goals of energy transition. Other discussion topics will include the integration of RE with new technologies, as well as the challenges associated with energy storage. The discussion will also have to consider the modifications brought about vide the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022, which was approved by the Rajya Sabha on 12th December, 2022 and gives the Central Government the power to specify a carbon trading scheme as well as a minimum share of non-fossil fuel consumption by designated consumers.
