Executive Summary: The Ministry of Power, Government of India introduced the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022 (hereinafter, “the Bill”) in the Lok Sabha on 8th August, 2022. The Bill has since been referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Energy. In the present discussion paper, SOLPO Research presents its initial comments and recommendations in response to the Bill beginning with a summary of the main issues and followed by a more detailed clause-by-clause narration.
